Initially formed as a joint venture with Spinneys, Alghanim Industries took over the management of GTRC in April 1997. With the emergence of co-op supermarkets, GTRC became a key distributor during the 1970’s. In 1998, GTRC became a wholly-owned subsidiary of parent company, Alghanim Industries. The business then rapidly cemented its position in the market, which was recognized by AC Nielson when it rated GTRC as the #1 distributor in Kuwait in January 2008.
